What led you to work in this industry?
I experienced significant burnout in my early 30s while running the NZ branch of Robert Walters, a recruitment firm. That burnout was a wake-up call. It made me reevaluate what I wanted from life and work. Since then, I’ve committed to living a well-balanced, sustainable life aligned with my values. We only get one life—so use your time wisely and without regrets.
What’s your favourite part about working at Generator?
The people! The staff are always up for a chat and contribute to making Generator a great place to work.
What top tips do you have for new Generator members?
Put yourself in the way of opportunity. Show up in shared spaces regularly and be open to meeting new and interesting people—you never know where those connections might lead.
What song would get you dancing like no one’s watching?
"San Francisco" by The Mowgli's—it’s a feel-good tune that never fails to get me moving!
If you could quickly learn any skill, what would it be?
Mandarin—it’s such a useful language in today’s interconnected world.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
One piece that’s stuck with me is: “Be the flower, not the bee.” It’s a reminder not to strive unnecessarily. Instead, focus on becoming someone who others naturally want to be around because of your authenticity and what you offer. That way, opportunities will come to you more easily.
