Humans of Generator: Joanna Wang

Meet Madden Street member Joanna Wang. Joanna is the Comvita Wellness Lab Experience Lead. Charged with the brand’s flagship experiential store: The Wellness Lab, Joanna leads the daily operations, as well as marketing strategy, community engagement, and events strategy & planning.

Comvita have been a member at our Madden Street site since December 2021.

Tell us a little bit about Comvita

In 1974, Comvita’s founders got together with a shared purpose of working in harmony with nature to help people feel better and live well. Bees were their inspiration, and Mānuka honey their medicine. Today, we continue this passion for being better, working at the forefront of science to deepen our understanding of the hive's healing power. We source the highest quality natural ingredients from remote corners of New Zealand, and use leading science to verify their purity and potency. Leading the Wellness Lab here in the Auckland viaduct, we turn that vision into an unforgettable experience for all ages.

What are some business achievements you are proud of?

Just as the Mānuka tree is a natural kaitiaki (guardian) of the land, so are we. Ecosystem regeneration starts with putting nature back, so we've pledged to plant one tree for every pot of honey sold – so far that’s 10 million new trees planted throughout some of New Zealand’s most fragile environments. On top of this, we have committed to donating 1% of our profits to our partner charities Saving the Wild, For the Love of Bees and Save the Kiwi. We recently have counted over 22 pairs of breeding kiwis in our Mānuka forests! Together, our goal is to create a world where bees, nature and people can thrive together in harmony. A better world.

If you could quickly learn any skill, what would it be?

There would be too many to choose from! At the top of my list would be scubadiving, leathercrafting, and the ability to fix anything around the house!

Tell us a fun fact most people don’t know about you…

I was born in China, spent most of my childhood flying between China and New Zealand, so now I'm bad at both languages!

What’s the best perk of working at Generator?

The Generator Offices have some of the most amazing staff! They have such a lovely energy that'll brighten even the worst of workdays.
