Generator Waring Taylor Street opened in November 2021 after a full refurbishment that included significant seismic strengthening and focused on sustainable development, achieving a 5 Green Star Design and As-Built rating.
In 2022, it won the Commercial Property of the year at the Property Council New Zealand's Rider Levett Bucknall Property Industry Awards. More recently, it won a Gold Pin at the 2023 Designers Institute of New Zealand Best Design Awards for Workplace Environments over 1000sqm, and the 2023 Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA) Wellington Architecture Award for Interior Architecture.
Designed by architects Warren and Mahoney, the ambition of 30 Waring Taylor Street’s design was to celebrate and pay homage to the existing building. Meeting rooms and event spaces have been named with the building’s history in mind. This includes member’s lounge “Rumbles Bar”, which pays homage to the idiosyncratic Peter Rumble who ran Rumbles Wine Merchant in the space for 28 years.
